Summary
We are looking for people who can spare a few hours every week, to present radio programmes and/or visit the wards to collect requests.Detailed description
Cirencester Hospital Radio broadcasts to the main hospital on Tetbury Road.
The station is run by volunteers and we try to provide a few hours of live broadcasting every day with the remainder being filled by recordings of our best programmes, offering a 24/7 service to the wards.
We are looking for people who can spare a few hours every week, during the day or early evenings.
There are opportunities to help out in the following roles:
- Radio Presenters
- Ward Visitors
- Social Media/Publicity/Fundraising
- Website Maintenance
- Equipment Maintenance
- Producing Programmes
A big part of Hospital radio is chatting to the patients on the wards and collecting their requests. The range of patient's requests is broad, covering all genres of music, so a knowledge of music can be useful, but not essential.
For those more interested in pursuing a career in the radio industry, this can be an ideal starting point on your journey. The experience gained and skills learned in the studio will be invaluable.
The presenting role involves volunteering once a week for around 2 hours on one of our daily, live shows. You will be helping plan the live show, creating the music playlist, contributing ideas, presenting live on air, researching about local news events, producing the show, interviewing guests, and engineering the show using the mixing desks.
Once you’ve gained some experience, you can also start presenting your own show.
There is also the opportunity to help us at our community events, such as the Hospital Fete and help run our social media pages.
Students (16+) following media courses or needing to complete voluntary work are welcome.
If you would rather be behind the scenes, we always appreciate help with supporting the organisation technically, such as managing the equipment and web site or general admin.
It helps if you are outgoing and enjoy meeting people; however, most important is an enthusiasm for radio and a willingness to learn and be part of a team.
