Summary
Join our team of chefs and help us serve a free, three-course meal for anyone who needs it in Gloucester.Detailed description
At Community Kitchen, we're not just about feeding hungry people, it's about our Gloucester City Centre community. We don't just cook and serve food, we create a calm, welcoming environment where we serve a totally free three course meal to anyone who needs it.
Join our team of volunteer chefs! You'll work with an experienced, supportive Head Chef and help prepare a meal for up to 80 people. Sound daunting? You'll be surprised how quickly you learn... most of our volunteers don't come from a catering background - we've all learned on the job, just like you can! It's a great way to learn how to cook cheap, nutritious, wholesome food for yourself too. You don't need to have any experience and you will get any training and support you need.
We want to create the best volunteer experience for our team so there is no ongoing commitment - you book onto the shifts you want to volunteer for online. Some of us volunteer every week, some people only a few times a year - it's up to you.
When you volunteer with Community Kitchen, you join a totally volunteer-led charity - we have no paid staff - so when we say it's your community kitchen, we really mean it.
We serve up to 80 three course meals in one sitting and all of our volunteer roles are busy and well organised. You'll need good timekeeping to cook and plate up the food on time. We can only fit 4-5 chefs in our kitchen so we'll need you to play a proactive, positive part our fun, supportive chef team. You don't need to be a cooking expert though! If this sounds like your thing and you're free on a Monday night, why not give us a try - there's no ongoing commitment.
