Volunteer Job Description: Dad Matters Gloucestershire - Hospital Drop-In Support
Position: Hospital Drop-In Volunteer
Location: Gloucester Royal Hospital Maternity Ward
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, between 9am - 7pm
About Dad Matters Gloucestershire
Dad Matters Gloucestershire supports new and expecting dads through 1:1 peer support, signposting to local resources, and offering a listening ear to help them navigate the early days of fatherhood. We aim to create a welcoming and supportive environment for dads during this significant time in their lives.
Role Overview
We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join our Hospital Drop-In team on the maternity ward at Gloucester Royal Hospital. Volunteers will engage with new and expectant fathers, offering peer support, information, and guidance to help them feel confident and connected as they begin their parenting journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one peer support to dads who are about to have, or have just had, their baby
- Offer signposting to relevant services and resources for further support
- Be a positive, approachable presence in the maternity ward, fostering a supportive atmosphere for dads
- Complete necessary training and engage in regular supervision and follow-up sessions
What We Offer
- Training: Full training is provided to prepare you for this role, including training on peer support and active listening skills
- Supervision: Regular supervision sessions with experienced staff for guidance and feedback
- Ongoing Development: Opportunities for follow-on training and skill-building
- Expenses: Reimbursement of travel and other approved expenses
- DBS Check: A DBS check will be provided for all volunteers
Requirements
- A commitment to providing at least 2 hours of support each week
- Empathy, understanding, and good listening skills
- Reliability and the ability to work within the structure of the hospital setting
