Are you passionate about supporting and empowering Carers in your community? Do you enjoy building meaningful connections and making a positive impact in someone's life? If so, we have a rewarding opportunity for you to become a Volunteer Buddy at the Gloucester Carers Hub!


As a Volunteer Buddy, your role will be to provide companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance to Carers in the Gloucester area. Whether it's through remote interactions or face-to-face meetings, you will have the flexibility to work where it suits you best.


Responsibilities:


- Building connections: You will be matched with a Carer who may be in need of companionship and support. Your role will involve establishing a friendly and supportive relationship, offering a listening ear, and building a sense of trust and rapport.


- Emotional support: As a Volunteer Buddy, you will be there to provide emotional support to Carers who may be experiencing stress, exhaustion, or feelings of isolation. You will offer a non-judgmental space for them to share their concerns and feelings.


- Practical assistance: In addition to emotional support, you may also provide practical assistance to Carers. This could include connecting them with local resources and services.


- Remote or face-to-face interactions: Depending on the preferences and circumstances of the Carer, you will have the flexibility to engage in remote interactions such as phone calls or video chats, or meet face-to-face for outings or activities.


- Flexibility and availability: As a Volunteer Buddy, you will have the opportunity to specify your availability and preferred mode of interaction. This ensures that you can provide support in a way that suits both you and the Carer.


Qualifications and Skills:


- Empathy and compassion: You should have a genuine desire to support Carers and be able to demonstrate empathy and understanding towards their unique challenges and experiences.


- Excellent communication skills: Effective communication is essential in building strong relationships with Carers. You should be able to actively listen, engage in meaningful conversations, and express yourself clearly and respectfully.


- Flexibility and adaptability: Carers' needs and preferences may vary, so it is important to be flexible and adaptable in your approach to providing support.


- Respect for boundaries and confidentiality: Respect for privacy and maintaining confidentiality are paramount when working with Carers. You should be able to establish and respect boundaries, ensuring that personal information remains confidential.

Please note that this is a voluntary position, and no remuneration will be provided. However out of pocket expenses will be covered as well as a DBS check.Training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure your success as a Volunteer Buddy.
