Volunteer Role Description
Young Carers Activities Volunteer
Responsible To: Gloucestershire Young Carers Development Worker - Youth Work, during sessions the Lead Worker
Expenses: Travel and out of pocket expenses agreed with Lead Worker
About Gloucestershire Young Carers
Young Carers are children and young people who take responsibility for the care of a family member experiencing chronic physical ill health, mental ill health, disability or problems with substance misuse. Gloucestershire Young Carers was established in 1993 to identify Young Carers throughout the county and to develop a network of support both with and for them. Gloucestershire Young Carers runs respite support groups as well as day trips and residentials, which provide a break from their daily caring role.
The Role of the Volunteer
Activity volunteers will provide support alongside our youthwork team to help deliver and engage young carers in a range of sports/activities.
- Enabling and encouraging young carers to participate fully in activities, from sports to crafting
- Building a trusting relationship with young carers enabling them to share their concerns or worries
- Attending appropriate meetings regarding young carers, including supervision, training and planning sessions
- In line with Gloucestershire Young Carers Child Protection Policy, pass on any information regarding a young person’s welfare which could be harmful to themselves or others to the group leader
What we are looking for:
- Good Communication and listening skills
- Sports and craft skills / active
- Ability to engage and encourage young people to participate in fun and free time
- Self-motivated – ability to work unsupervised and to use own initiative
- Working as part of a team and feeling comfortable outdoors.

Training & Supervision
Volunteers will be fully supported and be required to attend relevant training and regular supervision.
Child Protection training is a requirement to this role. We will be able to organize this for you giving you a choice of a one-day course or a one session on-line course (either is free of charge).
Other Requirements
Use of car and full driving licence is desirable.
