Summary

Join us to be part of the UK's biggest citizen science water testing event. Followed by maintaining our three year old saplings.

Detailed description

Come and test the water quality of your local stream. to help to create a snapshot of the health of rivers throughout the UK. The tests are easy to do and suitable for families to do together.

Afterwards, we will clear scrub from around our young trees to help them to continue to get light and water to grow strongly.

All equipment will be provided for the Waterblitz. If you want to clear scrub, long sleeves and trousers are recommended. We have some tools to share, but please bring thick gloves and pruning tools if you have them.

Getting there

We will meet in the orchard by the tennis courts.

About Green Abbey

Green Abbey: green spaces in Abbeydale and Abbeymead and the surrounding area. We are a network of people living in Abbeymead, Abbeydale, Barnwood and Coney Hill, who are interested in growing in appreciation for the fabulous green spaces that are dotted through our residential area. Events are one of two things: sometimes a work party such as the pruning of the Clocktower Park apple trees, and sometimes a community event, such as the annual Big Butterfly Count. We have strong links with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and with the council green spaces team and are connected with the urban wildlife project, also with the friends of Barnwood Arboretum and Saintbridge Pond. We hope to grow in neighbourliness as we meet both the people and the creatures that share our home.
