Summary

Help us to prune the brambles and bindweed from around our saplings, to give them more space to grow.

Detailed description

We will be cutting the undergrowth away from trees that were planted in March 2022.

The trees are there to increase the range of tree species in the park and to provide a different habitat for wildlife. Cutting back the undergrowth not only helps the trees: it is great exercise too!

Please bring thick gloves and wear long sleeves and trousers.

If you have pruning tools (secateurs or loppers) please bring them too.

We will meet in the orchard by the tennis courts.

About Green Abbey

Green Abbey: green spaces in Abbeydale and Abbeymead and the surrounding area. We are a network of people living in Abbeymead, Abbeydale, Barnwood and Coney Hill, who are interested in growing in appreciation for the fabulous green spaces that are dotted through our residential area. Events are one of two things: sometimes a work party such as the pruning of the Clocktower Park apple trees, and sometimes a community event, such as the annual Big Butterfly Count. We have strong links with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and with the council green spaces team and are connected with the urban wildlife project, also with the friends of Barnwood Arboretum and Saintbridge Pond. We hope to grow in neighbourliness as we meet both the people and the creatures that share our home.
