Summary

Trustees carry out a wide range of duties and are responsible for making the charity effective, providing overall direction and the sound management of funds.

Detailed description

Trustees are jointly responsible for good governance and employment of the staff team. They are volunteers who use their skills, knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions and develop the charity's strategy. This may include scrutinising circulated papers, leading discussions focussing on key issues and providing advice and guidance on issues in which they have special expertise.

The board works with staff and advisors to ensure the funding needed is there to develop Home-Start's services, monitor and report on how well the charity is doing, and file returns to regulatory bodies.

Working with staff and home-visiting volunteers, the board of trustees has a positive impact on the lives of local families in Stroud and Gloucester.

We are looking for two trustees to join our friendly board, one specifically with HR experience to provide advice if needed by the staff members as well as being able to work as a member of the board team to help make sound decisions.

We would also like an enthusiastic trustee with fundraising experience who is keen to develop links with the local business community and help motivate and support fundraising events as well as help advise on fundraising strategy. A background in successful charity fundraising might be helpful, but it’s more important that you have a sound understanding of the current funding landscape.
