Summary
Event volunteers required to provide stewarding and general support at our Sight Loss ExhibitionDetailed description
We need volunteers to support our exciting Eye Can Sight Loss Exhibition, which we are running in Gloucestershire on Monday 3 June.
This event offers an opportunity for people with sight loss, their family, friends and professionals to gain a greater knowledge of the support available to them. It brings together providers of technology, advice & guidance, health & wellbeing, and education - all under one roof.
Details as follows:
Date: Monday 3 June 2024
Time: 10am-3.30pm (volunteers to arrive for 9.15am at the latest)
Venue: Dowty Sports & Social Club, Down Hatherley Lane, Down Hatherley, Gloucester, GL2 9QH
Tasks: For this particular event, you can expect to do the following:
- Help to meet and greet visitors and take a register
- Provide stewarding outside the venue and at the entrance to Down Hatherley Lane, where we will be offering a shuttle taxi down the lane. We will organise this on a rota basis so no-one is standing in the same place for too long.
- Familiarise yourself with the venue so that you can direct visitors around the site and provide information about the day
- Provide Sighted Guiding for clients where required (training will be provided).
- Take photographs if you are confident in doing so
- Conduct evaluations with visitors leaving the event
If you can't make the entire day, we particularly need people to help out in the morning when it is busiest. Reasonable pre-agreed out-of-pocket travel and refreshment expenses will be covered.

For more than 165 years, Insight Gloucestershire has been supporting local blind and partially sighted people. We provide timely and appropriate support services for all people affected by sight loss in Gloucestershire, along with their families and friends. Our aim is to ensure people with sight loss in the county are able to lead active, independent and fulfilled lives.
Our aims are:
- To ensure all people with sight loss in our geographic area (and their family and friends) know where they can find support relevant to their personal situation.
- To provide a range of good quality, high impact services driven by the voice and needs of our clients.
- To build a strong and sustainable organisation which adds real value, can demonstrate its impact and has the confidence of the people and organisations we work with.
As a charity, we work across the county of Gloucestershire. We have a low vision resource centre in Cheltenham. We also regularly run local advice hubs and social groups in towns across the county where clients can access information, advice and guidance.
