ROLE:
1. The role of the Volunteer Recruitment Officer, with support from the Volunteer Co-ordination team, is to attract interest and applications from potential new volunteers in accordance with the museum’s Forward Plan.
2. Use the up-to-date list of volunteer vacancies at the museum to serve as the basis for targeting potential volunteers with plans and activity.
3. Recruitment activity to be focused on seeking more general volunteers required to support museum open days as well as specialist roles requiring a level of relevant expertise and experience.
4. Develop a clear understanding of the most effective ways of attracting new volunteers to the museum. Apart from key learnings from Jet Age Museum based activity, this would also involve liaising with other volunteer organisations, museum development specialists and any other relevant external bodies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
5. Identify the most appropriate on and off-line communication channels, including social media and PR, to create a monthly schedule of external recruitment activity. Produce the required copy, content and adverts in compliance with the museums brand guidelines.
6. Liaise with the Volunteer Co-ordination Deputy Manager to create regular internal promotions with existing volunteers, new volunteers and through the Induction process.
7. Media costs, or any other types of expenditure, must be proposed in advance and agreed with the Volunteer & Membership Trustee before being committed.
8. Provide reports analysing results of all activity, including a clear narrative about future planning considerations based on current outcomes.
9. Liaise with the External Affairs team to ensure all recruitment activity does not conflict with their own marketing and PR work. Agree workarounds as appropriate.
10. Collaborate with the museum’s Webmaster to ensure an up-to-date list of vacancies is featured on the web site. Also, agree additional website promotions from time to time and prepare content as required.
11. Liaise with the Visitor Services team to identify how the museum's volunteer vacancies can be promoted more effectively to visitors. Implement initiatives as agreed.
12. With the Volunteer & Membership Trustee, develop a strategy to build good working relationships within the Gloucestershire aviation industry. The aim is to identify and agree opportunities to promote volunteer vacancies to current staff and retired staff where possible. Consider reciprocal benefits. This initiative will be fully supported by other Trustees who have extensive experience and significant contacts in those businesses.
13. Ensure that responses from potential volunteers results in them completing an Expression of Interest Form, to be passed on to the Volunteer Co-ordination Deputy Manager for further processing.
14. Support the Volunteer Co-ordination Deputy Manager with the general administration related to bringing in new volunteers.
SKILLS/INTERESTS NEEDED:
15. A background in the recruitment would be preferable. This should include experience in identifying suitable channels for promoting vacancies and preparing copy and content for on and offline activity, including social media and PR.
16. Analytical and reporting skills – presenting plans, results and perspectives with clarity.
17. A general understanding of working in an organisation run exclusively by volunteers.
18. Working as a team player is essential and the ability to show empathy towards fellow volunteers is a must.
TRAINING OFFERED:
19. Following the Induction Course, regular one to one review sessions would identify any specific training requirements.
20. Internal relevant expertise amongst several Trustees, and other volunteers, would be shared in support of the role.
TIME COMMITMENT SUGGESTED:
21. Approximately 3 - 5 hours per week.
LOCATION:
22. At the Museum site and/or planning and executing recruitment activity from home.
