Summary
Would you like to use your organisational and engineering skills to really make a difference?Detailed description
The Stroud Valleys Canal Company (SVCC), owners of the canal in Stroud (from Brimscombe to Saul Junction) is looking for an additional Director (and Trustee) to make a major contribution to successfully bringing the canal from Saul Junction to the Stroud Brewery into full operation over the next few years.
Is this where you could really make a difference by bringing engineering expertise and organisational skills to bear on the many small and large jobs that need to be done? And then see real changes on the ground?
The SVCC is looking for someone who can take an issue that arises on the canal from the problem stage through to a set of instructions to volunteers (or, if necessary, a commercial organisation) which will fix the issue. There is (usually) lots of expertise within the canal family that can be accessed to help and guide this process, but what the SVCC is missing is the ability to coordinate and marshal this expertise and knowledge into something that volunteers (or a commercial operation) can put into practice.
This is a very exciting opportunity to make a real, and highly visible, difference to the local environment and community.
If you are interested, please contact us to arrange a chat.
About Stroud Valleys Canal Company
SVCC is volunteer led and has overall responsibility for managing and maintaining the canal once it has been restored.
With Phase 1A between Stonehouse and Thrupp now navigable, there is lots of maintenance to be carried out on the canal and towpath to sustain the wonderful asset we have in our community. SVCC works closely with volunteers from Cotswold Canals Trust and Stroud District Council.
There is still more to come, SVCC is a partner of the Cotswold Canals Connected Project Phase 1B setup to link the Stroudwater Navigation to the Gloucester Sharpness Canal linking the Cotswold Canals to the national waterways once again.
