Summary

Volunteer team leader to coordinate and deliver restoration tasks, supervise and support volunteers, ensure safety compliance, maintain tools, keep records.

Detailed description

We are approaching a key part of the canal restoration which includes building two new locks and restoring several more, excavating a new canal channel and then forming the canal banks and bed.

The vast majority of this work is carried out by volunteers; we are looking for more team leaders to run regular volunteer groups to progress the busy work schedule and get the canal restored. We currently work on Mondays and Wednesdays but are looking to expand to Tuesday and Thursday as and when we recruit more volunteers.

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable directing and leading small groups, and with the occasional interaction with the passing public. You will be the 'face of the trust' in these circumstances and will be expected to interact accordingly.

We are looking for individuals with construction experience. Training will be provided where needed.

A Clean driving licence with no more than 3 points is essential for the role.

This opportunity is for individuals over the age of 21.

About The Cotswold Canal Trust

The Cotswold Canals Trust is a volunteer-led charity made up of hundreds of people working together, sharing expertise and energy to save our heritage and improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone.
Since the 1970s, volunteers have undertaken restoration and maintenance of the Cotswold Canals. With work now started on Phase 1B and exciting projects planned for Phase 2, we need more volunteers than ever to help achieve our goal of preserving, maintaining and improving the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal (i.e. the Cotswold Canals).
We have so many opportunities available from scrub bashing along the canal, dredging, operating a trip boat, sorting books at one of our bookshops to designing lock gates, the list is endless.
Cotswold Canals Trust Volunteers often speak of the new friendships, fun and sense of achievement they enjoy and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers to the team.
