Summary

The role of the Towpath Team Leader is to direct the team which maintains the 4½ miles of canal-side path from Siddington to Latton Basin.

Detailed description

The Team Leader organises the team of approx. 6 volunteers, which operates on Mondays from 9am to 2pm.

The team works all year round, weather permitting, to prevent the path from being overgrown with nettles & brambles etc; to keep the verges strimmed; and to remove any fallen trees/branches.

Tasks will include:

  • Deciding on which section of path will be worked on at any particular time.
  • Using the CCT Transit van to take the appropriate strimmers and other hand tools from the CCT depot at Driffield to the agreed work location.
  • Directing volunteers to ensure safe use of the tools and safe working practice in a public area.
  • Keeping an eye out for walkers on the path near the work site, directing and interacting with them as appropriate.
  • Maintaining the tools as appropriate.

We are looking for individuals who are comfortable directing and leading small groups, and with the occasional interaction with the passing public. You will be the “face of the Trust” in these circumstances and will be expected to interact accordingly.

You should ideally be familiar with the use and maintenance of petrol powered strimmers and brush-cutters and other vegetation management hand tools. Training will be provided where needed.

A clean driving licence with no more than 3 points is essential for the role.

This opportunity is for individuals over the age of 21.

Please message us for further details.

About The Cotswold Canal Trust

The Cotswold Canals Trust is a volunteer-led charity made up of hundreds of people working together, sharing expertise and energy to save our heritage and improve our local environment for the benefit of everyone.
Since the 1970s, volunteers have undertaken restoration and maintenance of the Cotswold Canals. With work now started on Phase 1B and exciting projects planned for Phase 2, we need more volunteers than ever to help achieve our goal of preserving, maintaining and improving the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal (i.e. the Cotswold Canals).
We have so many opportunities available from scrub bashing along the canal, dredging, operating a trip boat, sorting books at one of our bookshops to designing lock gates, the list is endless.
Cotswold Canals Trust Volunteers often speak of the new friendships, fun and sense of achievement they enjoy and we look forward to welcoming new volunteers to the team.
