Summary

The County Ambassador will work with our Volunteering Coordinator to support our local volunteers (the people who collect tools, speak for us and fundraisers.

Detailed description

The County Ambassador will work with our Volunteering Coordinator to:

  • Support our team of local volunteers (the people who collect tools, speak on our behalf and represent us in churches and community groups.)
  • Recruit new volunteers
  • Promote our work locally
  • Help organise and run local events
  • Represent TWAM where opportunities arise
  • Seek opportunities to recruit groups to support TWAM as Local Groups, tool collection points and independent workshops

This will be within an agreed area, normally the county where you live (but we understand some counties are very large or very rural and this may not be feasible). But we would like the County Ambassador to proactively look for opportunities to promote the mission through speaking engagements; these can be in Church groups, Rotary groups, WI, U3A, retirement and community groups or local shows and events.

We would also like you to keep in contact with and support our other remote working volunteers, as it can be lonely working as a Tool Collector, Volunteer Speaker or Community Champion with little personal contact with TWAM. This role can offer a vital and comforting link for everyone involved. This is a great role for someone with drive, initiative and passion who wants to use those qualities to transform lives.

Everybody has different skills and gifts, and we recognise that nobody is good at everything or confident in everything. We will never put pressure on you to do things you really do not want to do. With this in mind, the key responsibilities will vary from person to person, but here are a few ideas.

Promoting TWAM via free local websites and papers, volunteer fairs and community events through talks to churches, church groups and local community groups. You can place leaflets (with permission) in local libraries and doctors'/dentists' waiting rooms.

You will be able to manage and support volunteers through regular communication, organising team meetings to create a sense of belonging and value, making sure everyone has up-to-date leaflets and ensuring everyone receives the volunteer e-news every month.

You will have an opportunity to speak to potential new volunteers in your area before they are approved by Ipswich and will be willing to visit or contact new collectors to build friendship and support.

You will work closely with the Volunteering Coordinator, and they will agree to a regular pattern of contact with you. You will receive resources from us, including a Volunteer speaker pack (updated biannually), a selection of leaflets, details of all your local volunteers, details of local supporting churches and groups and expense guidelines and reimbursement. You will also be provided with equipment such as a projector and screen, pull-up banners, Business cards and ID Cards. An Invitation to a monthly Zoom meeting with TWAM staff dedicated to the County Ambassador role

In a nutshell, this is a great role for someone who likes to show initiative and who shares our passion for livelihood creation. It’s a great role for someone who likes meeting people and getting involved in their community. If this is you, we’d love to hear from you.

About Tools with a Mission

We are a UK charity based in Ipswich, Suffolk, with centres across the country. We have a mission to empower people in Africa living in extreme poverty to create their own livelihoods. We do this by sending trade kits full of tools that are used in skills training centres, offering the trainees a way to put poverty in the past for good and begin their own sustainable careers.

We send around 18 containers to rural African communities every year, full of tools that have been collected from across the UK, and refurbished in our refurbishment centres.

We have a strong environmental focus, as our work helps to keep around 225 tonnes of tools out of landfills in the UK every year.

We also have a wide range of volunteering opportunities that enrich local UK communities and provide a safe environment for people to make friendships whilst making a difference.
